GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The men's tennis team concluded their fall season at the ITA Midwest Regional hosted by Davenport University in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The Bearcats sent 14 singles and seven doubles players to Grand Rapids, and of those singles competitors, junior Emile Pötgens (The Hague, The Netherlands) claimed a regional title, while the duo of senior Felix Diedrichs (Stockholm, Sweden) and sophomore Ricardo Ercolani (Cesena, Italy) claimed a doubles consolation finals win.
Pötgens began Flight D with a 1st round bye, before handling Henry Jacobs of Rockhurst in a 6-4, 6-0 victory in the round of 16. In the Quarterfinals, he yet again cruised to another victory over Darren Quach of Ferris State University 6-1, 6-2. In the semifinals, Pötgens moved on to the championship bout due to a withdrawal. In finals match of the flight, he was handed his first set loss in the tournament, before rallying back to take down Raul Ferrer Vilarino of Roosevelt University 1-6, 6-3 [10-6].
Diedrichs and Ercolani began their winning venture in the C Flight, where they lost the opening main bracket play to Andreu Martin Chuecos and Bora Bakici of Grand Valley State University 5-8. They began their consolation play with a flipped 8-5 win over Antonio Ayerbe Streubel and Kai Van-Roon of the University of Illinois Springfield. Diedrichs and Ercolani earned the bye into the consolation quarterfinals, defeating AJ Duggan and William Malo Wirak of Northwood University 8-4. In the consolation semifinals, the duo bested Thomas Mathys and Valentin Moraisin of Wayne State University 8-5. In the final game for the Flight C win, Diedrichs and Ercolani defeated Reuben Bakker and Ian Moreira of Davenport 8-4.
