BEFORE McK: Akai-Platt has been an integral part of the South Island Royals Midget A team being crowned the District Champions in both 2016 and 2017. During the 2017 season, Sydney posted a goals-against average of 0.89 along with nine shutouts which helped lead her team to be Provincial Champions and win the Provincial Most-Sportsmanlike Team Award. Akai-Platt also played with the Vancouver Island Monarchs AAA team in 2017, recording a 0.916 save percentage and a 1.75 goals-against average. Sydney and her team earned second place at the 2017 Challenge Cup.
