McKendree University Athletics

Jared Harkness joined the track and field staff in January of 2018 and is a graduate of fellow GLVC member Lewis University, Harkness leads the multi athletes and vertical jump groups including the high jump and pole vault events. During the 2018 indoor season, Harkness led McKendree’s first GLVC All-Conference athletes in the pentathlon as Jordyn Looman and Kirby Smith swept the top two spots at the conference championship, achieving NCAA provisional marks, also a first in school history. Harkness was a multi-time recipient of the Dr. David Delahanty Award which is given to Lewis Student-Athletes for academic excellence and named to the Academic All-GLVC Team in each of his seasons. A crucial part of several GLVC team championships for the Lewis men’s programs, he would accumulate seven NCAA provisional standards, set the school record in the Heptathlon, and earn over 10 GLVC All-Conference individual awards. Jared left Lewis with personal bests of 4823 in the Heptathlon, 6724 in the Decathlon, and 5.00m (16’ 4.75”) in the Pole Vault.
