Alex Staab was hired on August 7th, 2025 as McKendree University's seventh Director of Sports Information. Staab directs a comprehensive communications operation supporting the Bearcats' 37 sports programs. He oversees personnel and budget, establishes department-wide standards for coverage and branding, and serves as the primary contact for Football, Women's Basketball, Softball, Men's Golf, Women's Golf, and M1 Men's Hockey. His work centers on office morale, accountability, and consistent execution that he hopes continues to build around the high-quality team that's around him.

Prior to McKendree, Staab strengthened athletic communications and broadcast operations all across Illinois. From 2021-25 at Illinois Central College, he helped launch the department's Sidearm Sports website and led communications for the Men's Golf, Women's Volleyball, Men's Soccer, Baseball, and Men's Basketball programs. He has been entrusted with prominent event roles statewide, including public address announcing duties for the State Farm Holiday Classic, the IHSA State Softball Finals, and the Ohio Valley Conference Softball Tournament, along with TV and PA assignments with Bradley Women's Basketball and multiple high school programs.

Staab's work has earned peer recognition, including the Illinois Softball Coaches Association's Sportsperson of the Year (2023) and the State Farm Holiday Classic's Selden Marquart Volunteer of the Year (2022). He credits mentors Brian Barnhart (Illinois) and Ed Hammond (Bradley) with shaping an approach grounded in clear storytelling, precise play-calling, professionalism, and poise.

In addition to his McKendree responsibilities, Staab maintains limited radio duties with Illinois Central College Women's Basketball - his ninth season with the program. He has called 215 games, five National Tournament appearances, a Final Four, and three Region 24 Tournament Championship wins in his time with the Cougars.

Staab is originally from Vladimir, Russia, but was adopted at eight months old, when he then called Germantown Hills, Illinois home. He currently lives in Mascoutah, Illinois.
