Stephanie Sparks returns to the McKendree women’s basketball program for her seventh year as an assistant coach in 2011-12. Sparks will guide the junior varsity team and assist in the development of the Bearcat post players.
Sparks, a native of St. Louis, played four seasons at McKendree, and was a starter at center in each of the last three. She is one of just 11 players in Bearcat history to score 1,000 points in a career. Sparks piled up 1,149 points at McKendree, and she is fifth on the team’s all-time rebounding list with 740. Sparks still holds the Bearcats’ record for blocked shots in a game with seven against Millikin University during the 2002-03 season.
In addition to her on-court success, Sparks was a four-time American Midwest Conference Academic All-Conference honoree.
In 2005, Sparks received her bachelor’s degree from McKendree in psychology. In 2007, she received her master’s degree at McKendree in professional counseling.
