(LEBANON, Ill., December 2)- The No. 25 McKendree University women's basketball team won back-to-back games for the first time this season following a 67-43 victory over Blackburn College on Thursday night.
McKendree, 4-7 overall, will travel to Joliet, Ill., on Saturday to play University of St. Francis at 7 p.m.
Sophomore forward
Courtney Harris (St. Louis, Mo., St. Joseph Academy) led matched her career-high and led all players with 16 points, while fellow sophomore forward
Jessica Steinmetz (Wildwood, Mo., Lafayette) contributed 12 points in the win. Senior guard
Katie Fullerton (Coulterville, Ill., Coulterville) had 11 points and a season-high eight assists, and sophomore forward
Shelby Woelfel (Jerseyville, Ill., Jerseyville) chipped in 10 points. Kariann Hill led the Beavers with nine points.
The Bearcats led for all but 30-seconds of the contest and led by as many as 11 in the first half until back-to-back bucket's by Andrea Kleinsorge cut the McKendree lead to 31-24 at the half. The Bearcats steadily increased their lead in the second half and led by 20 or more points for the last 13 minutes of the contest. A free throw by Harris gave McKendree its biggest lead of the night, 64-36, with five minutes left to play and the Bearcats cruised down the stretch to earn their fourth win of the season.
