(LEBANON, Ill., January 22)- The McKendree University women's basketball team led by 26 at the half and had three players score in double-figures to cruise to a 74-43 victory of Harris-Stowe State UNiversity on Saturday.
The Bearcats improved to 7-12 overall and 3-3 in the American Midwest Conference with the win, and will travel to Walnut Ridge, Ark., on Thursday, January 27th to play Williams Baptist College at 5:30 p.m.
Sophomore forward
Shelby Woelfel (Jerseyville, Ill., Jerseyville) led McKendree with 16 points and 11 rebounds to record the double-double, while sophomore forward
Courtney Harris (St. Louis, Mo., St. Joseph Academy) and sophomore
Leann Voss (Breese, Ill., Breese Central) scored 15 and 11 points, respectively. Sophomore forward
Jessica Steinmetz (Wildwood, Mo., Lafayette) also matched her career-high with 10 rebounds in the win.
The Bearcats jumped out to an early 11-0 lead in the first five minutes of play and the Hornets didn't reach double-figures until there was just under two minutes to play in the first half. McKendree held Harris-Stowe to only four field goals in the first half and led 37-11 at the half.
Despite the Hornets almost tripling their scoring output in the second half, McKendree never led by less than 21 after the break. The Bearcats dominated Harris-Stowe on the boards by pulling down 61 rebounds to the visitors 29, and scored 33 second chance points to the Hornets' nine.
Lanikia Lawrence led all players with 29 points, with 24 of those points coming in the second half for the Hornets.
