(LEBANON, Ill., Feb. 12)—The McKendree University men's tennis team was defeated in its season opener Saturday by Washington University at the Kings Point Racquet Club in Belleville, 7-2.

The Bearcats, ranked No. 20 in the NAIA pre-season poll, earned both of its victories in singles play against the Bears. Junior Gabor Toth (Cegleo, Hungary/Kossuth Lajos) (Cegleo, Hungary) picked up his first victory in a McKendree uniform with a 6-4, 4-6, 10-2 triumph at No. 1 singles. Sophomore Fabio Tsuchiya (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Ateneu) (Sao Paulo, Brazil) collected the Bearcats' other win on the day with a 6-3, 3-6, 10-5 decision playing at No. 3 singles.

Washington University, the No. 6-ranked team in NCAA Division III, improved to 2-1 on the season.

McKendree will play host to Missouri Baptist University Friday evening at Kings Point.
