(LEBANON, Ill., April 8)- The McKendree University softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader to Union University (Tenn.).
McKendree fell to 20-14 overall and will host Central Methodist University at 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 9th.
The Bearcats struggled offensively and only had one hit in game one. The Bulldogs scored a run in each of the first three innings to lead 3-0 when senior outfielder
Jamie Corbier (O'Fallon, Ill., O'Fallon Township HS) collected McKendree's only hit with a single in the third. Union added five runs in the fourth inning and added three more in the fifth to shutout the Bearcats in game one loss in five innings, 11-0.
Freshman pitcher
Heather Deering (Breese, Ill., Mater Dei Catholic HS) threw 3.2 innings and walked three, while allowing nine hits, to fall to 2-3 overall.
The Bulldogs jumped out to a 6-0 lead over the first four innings in game two, before the Bearcats got on the board in the sixth inning on a single by freshman outfielder
Caitlin Stredde (Elgin, Ill., South Elgin HS) that scored freshman shortstop
Kendyll Koester (Lebanon, Ill., Lebanon HS) from third to make the score 6-1.
Junior pitcher
BethAnn Swartz (Urbana, Ill., Urbana HS) fell to 6-8 overall, striking out four and giving up all six runs, with only three being earned.
