MEN’S TENNIS TEAM EDGED AT WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY, 5-4; WIN STREAK ENDS AT 14 FOR BEARCATS

Gabor Toth posted the lone singles victory for McKendree at Washington University

(LEBANON, Ill., April 9)—The 14-match win streak for the McKendree University men's tennis team was snapped on Saturday by Washington University, but not without a fight.

The Bearcats dominated doubles play against Washington University, taking all three matches. However, the host Bears won five of the six singles contests to earn the hard-fought victory. McKendree, the No. 18-ranked team in the NAIA, slipped to 14-2 on the season. Washington University, which is rated No. 5 in NCAA Division III, pushed its record to 10-4.

Ironically, Washington University handed McKendree its only other loss in the 2011 spring season. The Bearcats were defeated by the Bearcats back on Feb. 12 in Belleville, 7-2.

McKendree will travel to Lamoni, Iowa next Saturday, April 16, to square off against Graceland University. Match time is set for noon.
