GAME NOTES
(LEBANON, Ill., Sept. 22)--For the second consecutive week, the McKendree University football team finds itself on the road facing an NAIA top 10-ranked team.
The Bearcats, 0-2 on the season, will be in Oskaloosa, Iowa, on Saturday to take on William Penn University. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. CT at the brand-new Lacey Complex Stadium on the campus of William Penn. McKendree is coming off a 33-7 loss at the University of Saint Francis (Ind.) In Fort Wayne, Ind., last Saturday. The Cougars, who are the No. 2 team in the NAIA poll, scored on their first possession and held the Bearcats' offense in check in posting the win. McKendree scored its lone touchdown of the game on a one-yard touchdown run by sophomore fullback
Stephen Wallace (Chester, IL/Chester) late in the third quarter.
William Penn enters the contest ranked No. 5 in the NAIA thanks to its 4-0 overall record and 2-0 mark in the Mid-States Football Association-Midwest League, which is the former league home of McKendree. The Statesmen pounded out 565 yards of total offense in its 68-10 home victory last week against Waldorf College.
The Bearcats hold a decisive 9-1 edge in the overall series with the Statesmen, which dates back to the 2001 campaign. McKendree has won each of the last two meetings by identical 24-14 scores, including last year's triumph at Leemon Field. The loss was the only blemish on the 2010 schedule for William Penn. McKendree and William Penn tied atop last year's MSFA Midwest League standings, but the Bearcats claimed the league's automatic NAIA post-season berth thanks to the head-to-head victory last Oct. 23.
