Amy Cassiday (Rochester, Ill., Rochester) scored two goals to lead the McKendree University women's soccer team to a 2-1 comeback victory over Maryville University.
The Bearcats improved to 1-0 overall and will host Avila University on Sunday, September 4th at 1 p.m.
The Saints got on the scoreboard first when Cydney Robinson took a pass from Sabrina Dennan and put it past McKendree freshman goalkeeper
Taylor Zerbe (St. Louis, Mo., Trinity Catholic) to give Maryville a 1-0 lead.
Cassiday tied the game, 1-1, in the 70th minute after taking a pass from sophomore defender
Allie Hayes (St. Louis, Mo./Incarnate Word Academy) and finding the back of the net for the first goal of the season. The game remained knotted up at 1-1 for the remainder of regulation to force overtime.
Neither team converted in the first overtime period, and Cassiday would end the game in the 106th minute with the game-winning goal. Senior forward
Erin Kilian (St. Louis, Mo., Kennedy) was credited with the assist.
Zerbe earned her first collegiate win in goal and recorded three saves.
