MEN'S BASKETBALL SET TO BEGIN FOUR-GAME SWING IN FLORIDA; BEARCATS TO FACE VOORHEES ON TUESDAY

(DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., Jan. 2)--
The McKendree University men's basketball team is all ready to begin the second half of its 2011-12 season in the Sunshine State.

The Bearcats will play the first in a four-game, five-day stay in Florida on Tuesday when they meet Voorhees College in the opening game of the Bahama House Classic in Daytona Beach. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m. ET (4 p.m. CT) at the ICI Center on the campus of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, which is the host of the two-day event.

McKendree fans can listen to each of the Bearcats' four games in Florida live on the Bearcat Sports Network, beginning with a 15-minute pre-game show prior to each contest. Following Tuesday's game, McKendree will square off with Central Christian College on Wednesday at 5 p.m. ET (4 p.m. CT) in its final game of the Bahama House Classic. After an off-day, the Bearcats return to action Friday at 7 p.m. ET (6 p.m. CT) in Babson Park, Fla., against Webber International University. McKendree will wrap up its stay in Florida Saturday at 7 p.m. ET (6 p.m. CT) by taking on Embry-Riddle.

Tuesday's game will mark the Bearcats' first game action since Dec. 16, when they rallied for a 66-64 victory at home against the University of Illinois Springfield. McKendree enters play with a season record of 9-6 and has won three of its last four games.

The Bearcats have three players averaging in double figures in the scoring column. Junior guard John Steppe (Effingham, IL/St. Anthony) leads the balanced attack at 14.1 points per game. Senior forward Sean Rakers (New Baden, IL/Wesclin) is second at 11.5 points per outing, followed by senior guard Karrington Pettiford (Florissant, MO/Christian Brothers) at 10.4 points a contest. Junior forward David Ruckman (Freeburg, IL/Freeburg) is the Bearcats' leading rebounder at 6.8 a game. Sophomore guard Mike Springs (Waukegan, IL/Waukegan) has dished out a team-leading 74 assists through the first 15 games of the season for McKendree.

This trip marks the Bearcats' first games in Florida since January 2005, when the team posted a 2-1 record in games played at Flagler College in St. Augustine. McKendree defeated Cumberland University and St. Thomas College during the Flagler Classic before being edged by Flagler in the final game of its stay.
