McKendree University Women's Basketball Falls At Truman State 94-64

Box Score (KIRKSVILLE, Mo., Nov. 17)- The McKendree University women's basketball team couldn't overcome a hot shooting night by Truman State University and fell 94-64 on Saturday afternoon.

The Bearcats fell to 1-2 overall and will travel to Fort Smith, Ark., on Nov. 23-24 to compete at the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith Lady Lions Classic. McKendree will play Rogers State University (Okla.) on Friday, Nov. 23 at 5:30 p.m., before playing Huston-Tillotson University (Texas) on Saturday, Nov. 24 at 2 p.m.

Sophomore guard Caty Ponce (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) led the Bearcats with 18 points, while freshman guard Liz Gilman (St. Louis, Mo./Principia) and senior forward Emily Woodland (Eureka, Mo./Eureka) each scored 14 points in the loss. Senior forward Leann Voss (Breese, Ill./Breese Central) had a team-high nine rebounds.

The host Bulldogs jumped out to a 9-2 lead in the opening 3:30 of play, but a three-pointer by freshman guard Ashley Klass (Evansville, Ind./Evansville North) cut the deficit to 9-5 with 16:02 left in the half.

Truman State scored 20 of its 34 first-half points in the paint and had its largest lead in the first half, 30-18, with 5:06 remaining, but McKendree battled back and outscored the hosts 23-4 in the final five minutes to cut the deficit to 34-31 at the half.

A layup by Ponce at the 18:02 mark of the second half brought the Bearcats within one, 38-37, but a 12-0 run by Truman State with 13 minutes left in the game gave the hosts a 66-41 lead.

McKendree shot a season-high 41.7-percent from the field in the contest, but the Bulldogs countered by shooting 49.3-percent (36-73) from the field, including 55.8-percent from the field in the second half.

Allie Norton led all players with 20 points for Truman State, while Becka McHenry scored 15 points. Amy Briggs and Nicole Gloor each had 11 points, and Jennifer Conway had 10 points.
