Women's Basketball Set To Close Out First Semester Tonight Against Missouri Baptist

The McKendree University women's basketball team will close out its first semester schedule against Missouri Baptist University tonight at home at 7 p.m.

THREE-GAME WIN STREAK SNAPPED FOLLOWING 69-60 LOSS TO LINCOLN: The Bearcats couldn't overcome a double-digit deficit in the second half on Saturday and fell 69-60 to Lincoln University. Sophomore guard Caty Ponce (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) led McKendree with 18 points, while junior guard Brittany Willis (St. Louis, Mo./Parkway South) scored 11 points. Senior forward Shelby Woelfel (Jerseyville, Ill./Jerseyville) led all players with 10 rebounds and a career-high six steals.

SCOUTING THE MISSOURI BAPTIST UNIVERSITY SPARTANS: The Spartans are entering Wednesday's contest with an overall record of 2-7. The Spartans have dropped four-straight games, and McKendree previously defeated Missouri Baptist, 61-60, in the season opener.

CONFERENCE LEADERS: The Bearcats rank in the top 10 in multiple Great Lakes Valley Conference stat categories. Caty Ponce (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) currently leads the conference with 21 points/game, is third with a .943 free throw percentage, and is ninth in the league with 2.3 steals/game. Ashley Klass (Evansville, Ind./Evansville North) is ranked ninth with a .455 three-point percentage, while Shelby Woelfel (Jerseyville, Ill./Jerseyville) is ranked 10th with 0.9 blocks/game. As a team, the Bearcats are ranked eighth in the GLVC in scoring offense (68.6 points/game), fourth in free throw percentage (.752), and ninth in field goal percentage (.392) and three-point percentage (.317). McKendree is also ranked thrid with 12.6 steals/game.

VOSS CLOSING IN ON TOP 10 IN CAREER STEALS: Senior guard Leann Voss (Breese, Ill./Breese Central) needs four steals to crack into the top 10 in the school record books in career steals.
