Box Score (LEBANON, Ill., Jan. 10)- The McKendree University women's basketball team dropped its third Great Lakes Valley Conference game of the season on Thursday evening in a 68-51 loss at Maryville University in St. Louis, Mo.
The Bearcats fell to 5-6 overall and 0-3 in the GLVC following the loss, and will travel back to St. Louis, Mo., on Saturday, Jan. 12 for a GLVC contest at University of Missouri-St. Louis at 1 p.m.
Freshman guard
Liz Gilman (St. Louis, Mo./Principia) led all players with 18 points, including 15 in the second half, and also matched her career-high with seven rebounds. Sophomore guard
Caty Ponce (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) was the only other player in double-figures with 10 points and a career-high eight rebounds.
The Saints scored the first five points of the game, but McKendree battled back and cut the deficit to 7-5 three minutes into the contest. The Bearcats kept the game within two possessions in the early going, but 12 turnovers led to 15 Maryville points in the first half, and McKendree found itself trailing 41-17 at the half.
Gilman drained back-to-back three-pointer's to bring the Bearcats within 16, 54-38, with 8:52 left in the game, but the deficit was too much for McKendree to overcome down the stretch.
Abby Duethman led the Saints with 17 points and led all players with 13 rebounds. Brittnye McSparron also scored in double-figures for Maryville with 14 points.
