Women's Basketball Falls To Kentucky Wesleyan On Senior Night 71-62

Box Score (LEBANON, Ill., Feb. 21)- The McKendree University women's basketball team dropped its final home game of the season, 71-62, to Kentucky Wesleyan College on Thursday night.

The Bearcats fall to 7-17 overall and 2-14 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference with the loss. McKendree will travel to Evansville, Ind., on Saturday, Feb. 23 to face University of Southern Indiana at 1 p.m.

Senior forward Shelby Woelfel (Jerseyville, Ill./Jerseyville) led the Bearcats with 17 points and 12 rebounds to record her 11th career double-double. She also moved into sole possession of ninth place on McKendree's all-time rebounds list increasing her total to 583 in her career. Junior guard Brittany Willis (St. Louis, Mo./Parkway South) scored 14 points, and freshman guard Liz Gilman (St. Louis, Mo./Principia) contributed 10 points. Senior guard Leann Voss (Breese, Ill./Breese Central)' one steal pushed her into sixth place on McKendree's all-time steals list by increasing her total to 181 in her career.

The Bearcats were spurred to an early 8-0 run behind two three-pointer's by Gilman to take a 10-2 lead just under five minutes into the game, and held onto their lead until a layup by Kentucky Wesleyan at the 4:38 mark of the first half gave the Panthers a 23-22 lead.

McKendree regained the lead on a jumper by Woelfel on the next possession, but KWC regained the lead and the Bearcats went into the half trailing 33-30.

The Panthers opened up the second half with an 8-0 run to jump out to a 41-30 lead with 16:25 left in the game, but McKendree cut the deficit to single-digits, 47-38, on a jumper by Woelfel at the 13:37 mark.

The Bearcats chiseled away at the deficit throughout the second half and cut it to six, 68-62, with 19 seconds left, but couldn't get any closer in the final moments to fall in the home finale.

Lauren Goffinet led all players with 22 points for Kentucky Wesleyan.
