Box Score (LEBANON, Ill., Feb. 9)- The McKendree University women's basketball team trailed by one at the half, but couldn't hold on in the second half to fall to University of Indianapolis 71-60 on Saturday.
The Bearcats fall to 7-14 overall and 2-11 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference with the loss, and will travel north to in Somers, Wis., on Thursday, Feb. 14 to face University of Wisconsin-Parkside at 5:30 p.m.
Sophomore guard
Caty Ponce (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) and freshman guard
Liz Gilman (St. Louis, Mo./Principia) each scored 15 points to lead McKendree, while junior guard
Brittany Willis (St. Louis, Mo./Parkway South) scored 10 points.
It was a back-and-forth one point game in the first six monutes of play, but the visiting Greyhounds used a 9-0 run to jump out to a 17-9 lead at the 10:51 mark of the first half.
The Bearcats got hot from beyond the arc over the final eight minutes of the first half, draining six three-pointer's, and cutting their deficit to 36-35 at the half.
McKendree took a brief 43-41 lead on a jumper by senior forward
Shelby Woelfel (Jerseyville, Ill./Jerseyville) shortly into the second half, but Indianapolis used a 7-0 run to retake the lead, 48-43, with 15:26 left to play.
The Bearcats cut their deficit to 48-46 on the next possession, but the Greyhounds extended their lead out to double-digits down the stretch.
Katy McIntosh led all players with 25 points for Indianapolis.
