Softball Drops Doubleheader At Lindenwood

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 (ST. CHARLES, Mo., March 14)- The McKendree University softball team lost both games of a doubleheader at Lindenwood University on Thursday, falling 3-1 in game one, before dropping game two 9-3.

The Bearcats fell to 3-7 overall on the season and will travel west for a Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheaderat Rockhurst University in Kansas CIty, Mo., on Saturday, March 16 at 12 p.m.

McKendree got on the board in the second inning, but gave up three runs in the third to suffer the loss in game one.

Sophomore designated player Kelsie Stoszkus (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon Township) led off the second inning with a double, and came around to score when sophomore first baseman Morgan Schulte (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon Township) reached on an error by the shortstop in the next at-bat.

The Lions tied the game on a sac fly and added two more runs on an RBI single in the third inning to take a 3-1 lead.

McKendree threatened in the fourth inning, but couldn't cut into the deficit to fall 3-1 in game one.

Freshman pitcher Taylor Barnouski (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon Township) fell to 1-1 on the season with the loss, and had one strikeout.

The Bearcats struck first again in game two, with junior leftfielder Caitlin Stredde (Pingree Grove, Ill./South Elgin) scoring on a sac fly by senior catcher Emily Mouyard (Johnson City, Ill./Johnson City) in the first inning.

The Lions scored twice in the bottom of the first and added four more runs in the second inning to jump out to a 6-1 lead after two innings.

McKendree cut the deficit to 6-3 in the third inning when Mouyard hit a two-run double with two outs that scored Stedde and sophomore shortstop Caty Ponce (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville).

The Lions extended their lead to 9-3 with three runs in the fifth inning and held on to defeat the Bearcats in game two.

Junior pitcher Kay Koonce (Greenville, Ill./Greenville) fell to 0-2 overall with the loss and had one strikeout.

Stredde led McKendree at the plate with two hits and two runs scored on the day. Mouyard had three RBI's in game two.
