McKendree Softball Falls In Two Close Games at Rockhurst

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 (KANSAS CITY, Mo., March 16)- The McKendree University softball team dropped two close games at Rockhurst University on Saturday, falling 1-0 in game one and 3-1 in game two.

The Bearcats fall to 3-9 overall and 1-3 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, and will travel to Liberty, Mo., on Sunday, March 17 to face William Jewell College in a doubleheader at noon.

McKendree gave up a run in the first inning of game one and was unable to string together any offense to drop game one 1-0.  The Hawks scored on an RBI double in the bottom of the first to take the lead and held on for the win.

Sophomore pitcher Kelsie Stoszkus (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon Township) had three strikeouts, but fell to 0-4 on the season with the loss.

Game two was scoreless for five and a half innings, until Rockhurst scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 3-0 lead. Sophomore first baseman Morgan Schulte (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon Township) cut McKendree's deficit to 3-1 in the top of the seventh, scoring on a groundout by senior third baseman Dana Schulte (New Baden, Ill./Wesclin). The Bearcats couldn't cross the plate again to fall in game two.

Sophomore pitcher Susan Goetze (Green Valley, Ill./Midwest Central) had four strikeouts in the loss and fell to 2-2 overall on the season.

M. Schulte had two hits and a run scored to lead McKendree at the plate in game two.
