Box Score 2 (LEBANON, Ill., March 9)- The McKendree University softball team split its first Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader on Saturday against Missouri S&T, dropping game one 3-1, before bouncing back to win game two 1-0.
The Bearcats are now 2-4 overall and 1-1 in the GLVC, and are scheduled to host Drury University on Sunday, March 10 for a doubleheader at Noon and 2 p.m.
In game one, McKendree scored first, but gave up three runs over the final four innings to fall in the first game 3-1.
A two-out double by senior catcher
Emily Mouyard (Johnson City, Ill./Johnson City) in the bottom of the first scored senior outfielder
Caitlin Stredde (Pingree Grove, Ill./South Elgin) from second to put the Bearcats in the lead 1-0.
The Lady Miners tied the game in the fourth inning, and then took its first lead in the sixth inning on a double by Jamie Hatlan. Missouri S&T added its third and final run of the game in the seventh inning.
Junior pitcher
Kay Koonce (Greenville, Ill./Greenville) fell to 0-1 overall with the loss and had two strikeouts. for the Bearcats.
Mouyard whad two hits for McKendree in game one, and also had an RBI.
In the second game of the doubelheader, the Bearcats struck again in the first inning, but held on to win the game 1-0.
It was deja vu for McKendree in the first inning, with Stredde scoring from second on a double by sophomore outfielder
Erica Johnson (New Baden, Ill./Wesclin). The run was all the Bearcats needed in the 1-0 win.
Freshman pitcher
Taylor Barnouski (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon Township) improved to 1-0 on the season and had two strikeouts in the victory.
Stredde had two hits and a run scored in the game to lead McKendree at the plate in game two.
