Women's Basketball Falls To No. 18 Indianapolis 102-72

Box Score (LEBANON, Ill., Jan. 25)- The McKendree University women's basketball team ended its six-game homestand on Saturday with a 102-72 loss to No. 18 University of Indianapolis.

The Bearcats fall to 7-9 overall and 2-6 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference with the loss and will travel to Louisville, Ky., on Thursday, Jan. 30 to face Bellarmine University at 5:45 ET.

Junior guard Caty Ponce (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) led McKendree with 17 points and is now only three points shy of passing Heather Elders for 12th on McKendree's all-time scoring list. Sophomore guard Ashley Klass (Evansville, Ind./Evansville North) and freshman forward Emily Pusheck (South Milwaukee, Wis./South Milwaukee) both had a career-high 12 points, with Klass posting a career-high four three-pointers and five assists in the loss.

The Bearcats trailed early in the game, but played the Greyhounds tough throughout the first half. Indianapolis scored the first six points of the game, but McKendree battled back and cut the deficit to 8-7 following a three by Ponce at the 16:20 mark. The Greyhounds extended their lead to 18-10 with just 14 minutes to play, but the Bearcats answered and came within one again, 27-26, following a layup by senior guard Brittany Willis (St. Louis, Mo./Parkway South) with 6:47 to go in the opening half. Indianapolis grabbed its first double-digit lead of the game, 38-28, with 2:38 left in the half and went into the break with a 47-38 lead.

The Greyhounds found their touch in the second half, shooting 63.6-percent from the field, including a 9-of-13 mark from three to take control of the game. Indianapolis also outscored McKendree in the paint, 20-12, in the second half.

Katy McIntosh led the Greyhounds with 17 points in the contest.
