Box Score (LEBANON, Ill., Nov. 18)- The McKendree University women's basketball team had a furious second-half rally come up short on Tuesday in a 66-62 loss to Lincoln University (Mo.).
The Bearcats fall to 0-3 overall and will host Lindenwood University on Tuesday, Nov. 25 at 7 p.m.
Sophomore forward
Gabrielle Williams (Minooka, Ill./Plainfield East) led McKendree with 12 points, while junior forward
Danielle Amann-Stewart (Mascoutah, Ill./Mascoutah) had 11 points, while senior guard
Caty Ponce (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) added 10 points.
The Bearcats only shot 37.9 percent from the field in the first half, including a 2-of-11 mark from beyond the arc. The Blue Tigers countered with a 57.1 percent effort from the field in the opening half and led 42-27 at the break.
McKendree capitalized on some early Lincoln turnovers caused by sophomore guard
Amber Alexander (St. Louis, Mo./Parkway North) and quickly cut the deficit to 42-35. The Bearcats cut the score to 50-47 after a free throw by Ponce at the 8:52 mark, and kept the game close, but was unable to gain the lead to fall 66-62.
Dorian Briggs led all players with 20 points for Lincoln.
