(LEBANON, Ill., Nov. 25)—The McKendree University fencing team was in State College, Pa., over the weekend for the Garret Penn State Open. The two-day event was hosted by Penn State University.
On Saturday, freshman
Mary Hardig (Schererville, IN/Marian Catholic) was the lone competitor for the Bearcats. Hardig competed in the saber competition, placing 40
th out of the 47 fencers in the event. Battling a field made up of mostly NCAA Division I institutions, Hardig finished ahead of fellow competitors from Temple University, Yale University, Long Island University, the City College of New York and host Penn State.
Sunday's action featured competition in the men's disciplines. McKendree had two fencers entered in the saber competition, with freshman Tristan Quinton taking 27
th place overall while fellow freshman
Cameron Davis (Belmont, NC) was close behind in 29
th place.
In the men's epee, freshman
Andrew Tolbert (Dolton, IL/Marian Catholic) collected a 37
th place finish at the Garret Penn State Open.
