(LEBANON, Ill., Nov. 4)- The No. 7 McKendree University women's wrestling team earned an upset win in its home opener on Tuesday night over No. 3 Lindenwood University 25-21.

The Bearcats improve to 10-6 overall and will have individuals competing at the New York Athletic Club/FILA Tournament this weekend.

McKendree jumped out to a quick 12-1 lead after the first three matches of the night. Freshman Coellet Rangel (Panorama City, Calif., Panorama) earned a forfeit win at 101 pounds, and 10th-ranked sophomore Tayler Resuriz (League City, Texas, Clear Falls) followed with a tech fall victory over Hanna Padilla, 12-2, at 109 pounds. Sophomore Lindsey Spjut (Montgomery, Texas, The Woodlands) earned a hard-fought decision win over Tori Degginger, 4-0, at 116 pounds to give the Bearcats their third-straight win.

The Lions wouldn't go quietly though, cutting their deficit in half, 12-6, with a win by fall at 123 pounds, but a 5-2 decision win by sixth-ranked sophomore Gabby Weyhrich (Fremont, Neb., Fremont) over fourth-ranked Rachel Factora at 130 pounds extended McKendree's lead back to 15-6.

A tech fall win by Lindenwood at 136 pounds cut the Bearcat lead to 16-11, but McKendree earned back-to-back wins at 143 and 155 pounds to jump back out to a 25-11 lead. Sixth-ranked 136-pound sophomore Olivia Seppinni (Rocklin, Calif., Rocklin) wrestled up a weight class at 143 pounds and pinned Jessica Rodriguez in 1:07, and eighth-ranked 143-pound freshman Alexis Porter (Ballston Lake, N.Y., Shenendehowa High School) followed with a 10-0 tech fall win over Lisa Gonzalez at 155 pounds.

Lindenwood earned pinfall wins in the final two matches of the night, but McKendree held on to win the dual 25-21.
