Box Score (KANSAS CITY, Mo., Feb. 15)- The McKendree University women's basketball team lost a Great Lakes Valley Conference at Rockhurst University on Saturday 79-61.
The Bearcats fall to 7-15 overall and 2-12 in the GLVC with the loss and will host its final home game of the season on Monday, Feb. 17 against Maryville University at 5:30 p.m.
Junior guard
Caty Ponce (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) led all players with 15 points for McKendree, while sophomore guard
Liz Gilman (St. Louis, Mo./Principia) had nine points and joined the top ten in career three-pointer's with two to give her 101 for her career, ranking her ninth in school history.
The Bearcats took an early 8-6 lead after a three-pointer by Gilman, but the Hawks outscored McKendree 11-2 over the next four minutes to jump out to a 17-10 lead at the 12:36 mark of the first half. The Bearcats responded and cut the deficit to one, but Rockhurst slowly extended its lead to double digits, outscoring McKendree 28-8 in the paint in the opening half, to lead 41-27 at the break.
Gilman's second three of the game cut McKendree's deficit to 11, 43-32, just over two minutes into the second half, but it'd be too much to overcome for the Bearcats in the end. McKendree was unable to find its mark from outside the arc in the contest, shooting 5-of-18 from three, in the loss.
Mary Dineen led the Hawks with 13 points.
