Women's Basketball Falls At No. 15 Lewis 75-63

(ROMEOVILLE, Ill., Feb. 22)- The McKendree University women's basketball team came up short on Saturday in a conference matchup at No. 15 Lewis University 75-63.

The Bearcats fall to 8-17 overall and 3-14 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference and will travel to Springfield, Ill., on Thursday, Feb. 27 to close out the regular season against University of Illinois-Springfield at 5:30 p.m.

Senior guard Brittany Willis (St. Louis, Mo./Parkway South) led all players with 22 points in the loss, while junior forward Danielle Amann-Stewart (Mascoutah, Ill./Mascoutah) recorded her second-straight double-double off the bench with 16 points and a career-high 15 rebounds. Sophomore guard Liz Gilman (St. Louis, Mo./Principia) also posted double-figures with 15 points.

The Bearcats struggled offenisvely in the first half, only shooting 25.6-percent from the field in the opening period, while the Flyers shot over 56-percent in the first 20 minutes of play to hold a 38-25 lead at the break. McKendree outscored Lewis 38-37 in the second half but was unable to find its rhythm from beyond the arc, shooting just over 22-percent from three in the game, to cut into the lead.

Jamie Johnson led Lewis with 19 points in the contest.
