Box Score 2 (MYRTLE BEACH, S.C., March 14)- The McKendree University softball team split its final two games at the Snowbird Classic softball tournament in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
The Bearcats are now 7-8 overall and will host University of Missouri-St. Louis on Thursday, March 20 for a Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader at 4 p.m.
McKendree had its six-game winning treak snapped following an 8-7 loss in eight innings to Bemidji State University, but bounced back to earn a 4-3 win over Saint Joseph's-Long Island in game two.
The game was tied 5-5 entering the eighth inning, and the Bearcats took a 7-5 lead on a two-run home run by junior designated player
Lindsay Schmitz (Streator, Ill./Streator Township), but the Beavers scored three runs in the bottom of the inning to fall 8-7.
Schmitz had two hits, two RBI and two runs scored to lead McKendree at the plate, and junior
Kelsie Stoszkus (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon Township) was tabbed with the loss 1.2 innings pitched and having two strikeouts.
Game two was tied, 3-3, entering the final inning before the Bearcats scored on an RBI single to earn the 4-3 win.
Freshman leftfielder
Jamie Doggendorf (Dittmer, Mo./Northwest), junior shortstop Kate Mays, and junior centerfielder
Erica Johnson (New Baden, Ill./Wesclin) combined to go 9-of-12 from the plate from the top of the order, including four runs scored and two RBI. Stoszkus picked up the win, pitching one inning and having one strikeout, improving to 3-2 overall.
