Box Score 2 (LEBANON, Ill., March 23)- The McKendree University softball team was swept in a doubleheader by Lewis University on Sunday.
The Bearcats fall to 8-13 overall and 3-6 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference and will host University of Illinois at Springfield on Wednesday, March 26 for a doubleheader at 3 p.m.
McKendree trailed 6-0 in game one in the fifth inning before scoring five runs in the bottom of the frame to cut the deficit to one. The Bearcats took advantage of three Flyer errors in the inning to come within one. Lewis added an additional run in the top of the seventh, but the Bearcats were unable to score in their last at bat to fall in game one.
Sophomore pitcher
Taylor Barnouski (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon Township) fell to 1-3 overall with the loss, while freshman leftfielder
Jamie Doggendorf (Dittmer, Mo./Northwest) had the lone hit for the Bearcats in the loss.
McKendree couldn't get its offense going in game two, picking up four hits, but was unable to score any runs. Lewis added five runs to its one run lead in the second inning, and added an additional two runs in the fourth inning to dish the Bearcats the 8-0 loss in five innings.
Junior picther
Kelsie Stoszkus (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon Township) fell to 4-4 overall with the loss and had one strikeout.
