(LEBANON, Ill., July 14)- The McKendree men's and women's tennis teams recently earned team and individual academic honors from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).
The men's team was one of only 30 NCAA Division II schools to earn the ITA All-Academic Team award, and was one of only six schools in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) to earn the award. The women's team was one of 57 NCAA Division II schools to earn the team award, and was also one of six GLVC institutions to earn the award.
The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). The Bearcats also topped the NCAA Division II list of ITA Scholar-Athletes this season. The men's team led NCAA Division II with 10 honoree's, while the women's team tied for the NCAA Division II lead with 10 honoree's.
In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must be a varsity letter winner, have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman thorough senior year).
"We are extremely proud of both teams for earning this honor from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association," said head coach
Adam Reeb. "Our goal at McKendree is to strive for excellence both on and off the court. These awards highlight those efforts made by our student-athletes in the classroom. They exemplify what it means to be true student-athletes."
