(LEBANON, Ill., Jan. 2)- The McKendree University women's basketball team will open up the new year with its Great Lakes Valley Conference slate this weekend with a pair of games in St. Louis, Mo.
The Bearcats travel to Maryville University on Friday for a game at 5:30 p.m., followed by a 1 p.m. contest on Sunday at University of Missouri-St. Louis.
SCOUTING THE SAINTS: Maryville University enters the weekend with an overall record of 6-3. The Saints have won four-straight games, including the last three while in Puerto Rico. Maryville is led by junior center Alex Hillyer's 15.1 points and seven rebounds/game.
SCOUTING THE TRITONS: University of Missouri-St. Louis enters the weekend with an overall record of 4-4. The Tritons have lost their last three games, including a one-point loss at Lindenwood, 79-78, followed by losses at Findlay, 72-66, and at Ohio Dominican, 67- 57. Senior guard Alexis Lawrence leads UMSL with 17.5 points/game.
MILESTONE WATCH: Senior guard
Caty Ponce (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) needs 29 points to pass Emily Best for seventh place on McKendree's all-time scoring list. Ponce also needs 15 three-pointers to pass Katie Hasheider as the all-time leader in school history in career three-pointer's made. Ponce recently jumped into the top 10 in school history in career field goals made and needs one to gain sole possession of ninth place on the Bearcats' all-time list.
NEXT TIME OUT: The Bearcats will host their home conference opener on Jan. 8 against Truman State University at 5:30 p.m.
