Box Score (RENSSELAER, Ind., Jan. 24)- The McKendree University women's basketball team battled back from a 13-point deficit to take a two-point lead with 7:18 left in the second half, but was unable to hold on down the stretch in a 73-65 loss at Saint Joseph's College.
The Bearcats are now 2-15 overall and 1-8 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference and will host University of Southern Indiana on Thursday, Jan. 29 at 5:30 p.m.
Junior guard/forward
Danielle Amann-Stewart (Mascoutah, Ill./Mascoutah) led McKendree with 19 points, while junior guard/forward
Jameeka Bouie (Racine, Wis./Case) had 14 points. Sophomore forward
Gabrielle Williams (Minooka, Ill./Plainfield East) added 10 points to record her 10th double-digit scoring effort of the season and also pulled down a team-high seven rebounds.
The Bearcats outscored the Pumas 18-8 in the paint in the first half, but were unable to capitalize and trailed 42-32 at the half. McKendree chipped away at the deficit in the second half and took its first lead of the contest, 54-53, following two free throws by Amann-Stewart with just over nine minutes left. Kelsee Ennis (Bloomington, Ind./Bloomington South) gave the Bearcats a 59-57 lead, but Saint Joseph's tied the game, and then took the lead, in back-to-back possessions to regain control. The Bearcats were unable to find points when they needed them most down the stretch and fell 73-65.
