(LEBANON, Ill., Jan. 8)--
The McKendree University men's basketball team will open the home portion of its Great Lakes Valley Conference schedule this weekend with a pair of contests. The Bearcats will host Truman State University Thursday at 7:30 p.m. before taking on Quincy University in a 3 p.m. battle on Saturday.

McKendree sits at 6-3 on the year and 0-2 in the GLVC following losses last weekend at Maryville University and the University of Missouri-St. Louis to begin league play. In the Bearcats' latest contest -- a 71-70 loss at UMSL on Sunday -- McKendree led by as many as 11 points in the middle stages of the second half but could not hold off the hard-charging Tritons at the finish. UMSL hit a free throw with 2.2 seconds to play to complete the comeback.

Senior forward Logan Carson (DuQuoin, IL/DuQuoin) led a balanced scoring attack for McKendree in the UMSL contest with 15 points. He also dished out five assists. Sophomore guard Michael Jackson (O'Fallon, IL/O'Fallon) scored all but one of his 14 points in the second half as junior guard Brandon Book (Albers, IL/Breese Central) returned to the Bearcats' lineup and added 12 points. Senior forward Arthur Williams (Cairo, IL/Cairo) chipped in with 11 points and a team-leading seven rebounds for McKendree.

The games against Truman State and Quincy mark the beginning of a three-game home stand for the Bearcats, who will also play host to Salem International University on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Harry M. Statham Sports Center. The Salem International contest will mark the Bearcats' final non-conference tilt of the 2014-15 season. After that, McKendree will embark on a five-game road trip that begins on Jan. 15 at Lewis University.

ABOUT TRUMAN STATE
The Bulldogs bring a 9-4 overall record to Lebanon. Truman State is 1-2 in GLVC play after dropping a pair of league games at home last weekend to the University of Wisconsin-Parkside (77-69) and Lewis University (74-64). First-year head coach Chris Foster has two players averaging in double figures, led by senior guard Seth Jackson at 21.3 points per game. Jackson is the second-leading scorer in the GLVC behind Cameron Vines of Saint Joseph's College and has scored 20 or more points six different times in 2014-15. Senior guard Reed Mells adds 13.4 points per contest to the Bulldogs' lineup.

Thursday's game will mark just the second meeting on the basketball court between McKendree and Truman State. The teams met last January in Kirksville, Mo., with the host Bulldogs posting a 91-60 victory over the Bearcats. Last season marked the first in the GLVC for Truman State, which was a long-time member of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) prior to joining the GLVC in 2013-14.

ABOUT QUINCY
The Hawks, like McKendree, are in search of their first GLVC win of the season. Quincy enters the weekend with a 6-7 record on the year and an 0-3 ledger in the conference. The Hawks were defeated at home last weekend by Lewis (79-59) and Wisconsin-Parkside (77-64). Marty Bell is in his 12th season as the head coach at Quincy and will be led by sophomore guard/forwards Scottie Bruxvoort and Evan McGaughey. Bruxvoort leads a balanced attack for the Hawks at 12.7 points per game while shooting a team-best 66.7 percent from the field. McGaughey checks in at 11.2 points per contest while pacing the squad in rebounding at 6.3 caroms a game.

Quincy hosted McKendree last season and registered a 103-72 victory in the only meeting of 2014-15 between the two teams. The Bearcats made program history two seasons ago in a 67-59 win against the Hawks back on Jan. 5, 2013. That marked the first GLVC victory for McKendree, which joined the league prior to the 2012-13 campaign.
