Box Score 2 (DAHLONEGA, Ga., March 9)- The McKendree University softball team lost its final two games at the Captain D's Surf and Turf Classic on Monday, but senior
Ashley Scheffler (Elgin, Ill./Burlington Central) and sophomore
Jamie Doggendorf (Dittmer, Mo./Northwest) were both named to the All-Tournament team.
The Bearcats are now 4-6 overall on the season and will host Lake Superior State University on Thursday, March 12 for a doubleheader at 1 p.m.
Scheffler and Doggendorf earned their spots on the all-tournament team after both had excellent weekends at the plate. Scheffler hit .412 over the three day event, with two triples, five stolen bases, five RBI and five runs scored, with an on-base percentage of .474 and a slugging percentage of .647. Doggendorf hit .417 with one triple, three RBI and seven runs scored, two steals and an on-base percentage of .417 and a .500 slugging percentage.
McKendree jumped out to an early 5-0 lead against Catawba College, but was unable to hold off a late rally to fall in its opening game of the day 7-5.
Doggendorf led off the game with a triple and came in to score on a double by senior
Kate Mayes (Collinsville, Ill./Collinsville). Scheffler folowed with a walk and senior
Erica Johnson (New Baden, Ill./Wesclin) singled up the middle to bring in Mayes to take a 2-0 lead. Scheffler later stole third and scored on a fielders choice by senior
Lindsay Schmitz (Streator, Ill./Streator Township) to go up 3-0. The Bearcats added two more runs in the second inning on an error by the second baseman that brought in senior
Lohgan Bryant (Danville, Ill./Schlarman) and Doggendorf to take a 5-0 lead.
The Indians hit home runs in the third and fourth innings to cut the deficit to 5-3, and scored four runs in the sixth inning to take its first lead of the game, 7-5, and held on to win.
Doggendorf, Mayes, and Johnson all had two hits in game one, while freshman
Brooke Gajewski (Kronenwetter, Wis./D.C. Everest) fell to 0-2 on the season and had two strikeouts.
McKendree was unable to get its offense going against No. 11 University of North Georgia, only picking up three hits in a 11-0 five inning loss.
After a scoreless first inning, the hosts scored three runs in the top of the second and fourth innings, before adding five in the fifth to earn an 11-0 win.
Mayes had two hits to lead the Bearcats at the plate, while senior
Susan Goetze (Green Valley, Ill./Midwest Central) fell to 0-2 with two strikeouts.
