Box Score 2 (INDIANAPOLIS, Ind., April 11)- The McKendree University softball team lost both games of a doubleheader on Saturday at No. 10 University of Indianapolis.
The Bearcats fall to 14-22 overall and 6-14 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference and will travel to Renssalaer, Ind., on Sunday, April 12 for a conference doubleheader at noon.
McKendree was unable to get its offense rolling in a 8-0 loss in game one. The Bearcats were the victim of a no-hitter in the opening game of the doubleheader, while senior pitcher
Kelsie Stoszkus (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon Township) fell to 7-5 and had two strikeouts in the loss.
In game two, McKendree battled back to tie the game, 3-3, but couldn't put together enough offense down the stretch in a 10-5 loss. Trailing 3-1 after the first inning, a two-out double by
Caty Ponce (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) scored
Dani Schoenbacher (Tamaroa, Ill./Pinckeyville) and
Rebecca Franke (Trenton, Ill./Wesclin) to tie the game 3-3. The Greyhounds added three runs in the bottom of the second inning, but a leadoff homer by
Katie Nauman (Amboy, Ill./Amboy) cut the score to 6-4 in the top of the third. Indianapolis scored four runs over the next three innings to lead 10-4 in the seventh, and Franke would score on a wild pitch to cut the deficit to 10-5, but the Bearcats were unable to add additional runs to fall in game two.
Brooke Gajewski (Kronenwetter, Wis./D.C. Everest) fell to 4-7 overall in the loss, while Ponce, Nauman, Franke, and
Hanna Branch (Kirkwood, Mo./Kirkwood) all had two hits for McKendree.
