Box Score 2 (RENSSALAER, Ind., April 12)- The McKendree University softball team lost both games of a conference doubleheader on Sunday at Saint Joseph's College.
The Bearcats are now 14-24 overall and 6-16 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference and will travel to Saint Charles, Mo., on Wednesday, April 15 for a non-conference doubleheader at Lindenwood University at 5 p.m.
The hosts led 3-0 after three innings, and the McKendree offense was unable to get things rolling with only two hits to fall in game one 3-0.
Kate Mayes (Collinsville, Ill./Collinsville) and
Dani Schoenbacher (Tamaroa, Ill./Pinckeyville) each had a hit for the Bearcats, while
Susan Goetze (Green Valley, Ill./Midwest Central) had three strikeouts in six innings pitched to fall to 3-8 overall.
McKendree took a 2-0 lead in the second inning of game two, but couldn't score runs when they needed them most to lose game two 6-3.
Katie Nauman (Amboy, Ill./Amboy) singled to lead off the second inning and
Hanna Branch (Kirkwood, Mo./Kirkwood) followed with her third home run of the season to tke a 2-0 lead. The Pumas tied the game in the bottom of the second, and went on to add four runs in the third inning to take a 6-2 lead. A single by
Caty Ponce (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) in the fifth inning scored
Ashley Scheffler (Elgin, Ill./Burlington Central) to cut the deficit to 6-3, but the Bearcats were unable to add additional runs to lose game two. Branch had two hits with two RBI and a run scored in game two, while
Holly Magre (Festus, Mo./St. Pius X) fell to 0-4 with the loss.
