(SAINT CHARLES, Mo., April 15)- The McKendree University softball team lost both games of its final non-conference doubleheader of the season at Lindenwood University on Wednesday.
The Bearcats are now 14-26 overall and will travel to Rolla, Mo., on Friday, April 17 for a Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader at Missouri S&T at 1 p.m.
McKendree struggled offensively in game one, only reaching base three times, and falling victim to a no-hitter in a 8-0 loss in five innings.
Kelsie Stoszkus (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon Township) fell to to 7-6 and had three strikeouts in game one.
THe Bearcats scored four runs in their final two at-bats in game two, but the rally was cut short in a 7-4 loss. Railing 7-0 entering the sixth inning, McKendree started its rally with three runs in the frame. A single by
Lohgan Bryant (Danville, Ill./Schlarman) scored
Jamie Doggendorf (Dittmer, Mo./Northwest) from third for their first run of the game, and a single by
Caty Ponce (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) later in the inning brought Bryant into score to cut the score to 7-2.
Katie Nauman (Amboy, Ill./Amboy) went on to hit a two-out single that scored
Ashley Scheffler (Elgin, Ill./Burlington Central) to cut the deficit to 7-3. A seventh inning out triple with two outs by Scheffler scored Bryant from first to bring McKendree within three, but the rally wouldn't continue to end the game. Ponce had three hits and and RBI in game two, while
Brooke Gajewski (Kronenwetter, Wis./D.C. Everest) fell to 4-8 with the loss.
