The Bearcats end the season with an overall record of 15-33 and a 7-23 record in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. McKendree honored its nine seniors,
Lohgan Bryant (Danville, Ill./Schlarman),
Susan Goetze (Green Valley, Ill./Midwest Central),
Erica Johnson (New Baden, Ill./Wesclin),
Kate Mayes (Collinsville, Ill./Collinsville),
Katie Nauman (Amboy, Ill./Amboy),
Ashley Scheffler (Elgin, Ill./Burlington Central),
Lindsay Schmitz (Streator, Ill./Streator Township),
Morgan Schulte (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon Township), and
Kelsie Stoszkus (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon Township), between the game of the doubleheader as part of senior day festivities.
Game one was scoreless until the Cardinals scored the only run of the game in the top of the eighth inning and held on to win in extra innings. Goetze struck out eight in her eight innings pitched, and only allowed five hits in the game. McKendree had an opportunity to tie the game in the bottom of the eighth with the bases loaded with two outs, but a grounder to third base for the putout ended the game. Johnson and Schmitz each had two hits for the Bearcats in game one.
William Jewell scored twice in the first inning of game two, but a six-run sixth inning by McKendree led to the game two win for the Bearcats. Facing a 2-0 deficit in the sixth, Mayes led off the inning with a single and moved to third on a double by
Caty Ponce (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) in the following at-bat. Schefffler followed with a double that scored Mayes, and a fielder's choice by Nauman scored Ponce from third to tie the game 2-2. Johnson doubled to bring in Scheffler and Nauman to take a 4-2 lead, and advanced to third on the throw home. A one-out single by Stoszkus brought in Johnson to increase the lead to 5-2, and a two-out single by Mayes scored Stoszkus from third to extend the lead to 6-2. Goetze entered to pitch in the seventh and Stoszkus replaced Ponce in right field to place all of McKendree's seniors on the field in the final inning. A leadoff double would be it for the Cardinals, as Goetze forced a ground out to third base, a flyout to centerfield, and struck out the final batter to cap off the 6-2 rally in their final collegiate game. Mayes had four hits, an RBI and a run scored in game two, while Scheffler had two doubles, an RBI and a run scored. Stozkus also had two hits, an RBI and a run scored in the victory, while improving to 8-8 overall with two strikeouts in her final collegiate game.
