(Quincy, Ill., September 19)—The McKendree University women's volleyball completed a three-set sweep over Quincy University Saturday afternoon. The Bearcats improve to 2-0 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play with the victory and 7-3 overall. The Bearcats ran away with the match posting scores of 25-16, 25-17, and 25-14.
Sophomore outside hitter
Arela Williams (San Diego, CA/LaJolla Country Day) paced the bearcats with 15 kills and nine digs. Junior outside hitter
Allison Schneider (St. Louis, MO/Lindbergh) added nine kills and eight digs of her own. Junior libero
Breanna Howe (Mt. Pulaski, IL/Mt. Pulaski) led McKendree in digs with 13 and tallied four assists
Freshman setter
Morgan Melchert (Mt. Vernon, IA/Mt. Vernon) dished out 19 assists and six digs, while junior setter
Aubry Dickmann (Edwardsville, IL/Edwardsville) passed out 14 digs and six digs for McKendree.
The Bearcats jumped out to an 8-3 lead thanks to two kills by Williams. The Hawks tried to battle back, but were stymied by a five point run from the Bearcats to push the lead to 16-8. McKendree closed out the set with a three point run that included two kills by Schneider.
The Hawks took an early lead in the second set 6-3, but they could not hold off a push from the Bearcats and found the game tied at 9. McKendree found its groove as the Bearcats busted out for a seven point run, and went on to take nine of the next ten points from Quincy. The run included back-to-back kills from senior outside hitter
Taylor Voss (Breese, IL/Breese Central) as well as back-to-back aces from Williams. They cruised to an eight point win.
The final set was more of the same for the Bearcats as they took 10 of the final 12 points, including five kills from Williams to clinch the match for Mckendree.
The Bearcats are back in action on Sept. 22 with a non-conference match against Missouri Baptist University in St. Louis, Mo.
