(FORT WAYNE, Ind., Jan. 8)- The No. 8 McKendree University women's wrestling team posted a 2-1 record on day one at the NWCA National Duals.

The Bearcats will face No. 15 Missouri Valley College on Saturday at 9 a.m. ET

McKendree did not lose a match in its opening dual of the day, posting a 39-1 win over Waldorf College. The Bearcats earned bonus points in four of their contested matches in the tourament opener.

McKendree posted wins in its first two matches against No. 5 Campbellsville University, but would only win two other matches in the dual to fall 29-16. Freshman Kayla Walker (San Jose, Calif./Pioneer) and junior Tayler Resuriz (League City, Texas/Clear Falls) opened the match with wins at 101 and 109 pounds to take a 7-1 lead, but the Bearcats lost the next four matches to fall behind 18-9. Junior Olivia Seppinni (Rocklin, Calif./Rocklin) and sophomore Alexis Porter (Ballston Lake, N.Y./Shenendehowa High School) both posted decision wins to cut the deficit to 20-15, but McKendree lost the final two matches to fall to the consolation bracket.

The Bearcats fell behind early in their final match of the day, but strung together seven-straight victories to defeat No. 10 Life University 32-17. Trailing 10-0 after the opening two weights, McKendree won the next seven matches, earning bonus points in all seven, to cruise to the win.
