(LEBANON, Ill., Oct 12) – The McKendree University women's ice hockey team hosts Midland University this weekend. The puck drops at 8:15 p.m. on Saturday, and 12:10 p.m. on Sunday at the Ice Zone at the St. Louis Mills Outlet Mall in Hazelwood, Mo.
McKendree earned its first two wins against the University of Wisconsin, making the teams overall record (2-2). The Bearcats clawed another spot closer to No. 1 this week in the ACHA D1 women's hockey rankings, coming in at No. 12. Midland heads into the weekend with an overall record of (1-3), with their lone win coming against Davenport University. Midland University received votes but did not crack the top 15 in this week's rankings.
Freshman forwards
Lara Wentz (Bismark, ND) and
Delayne Ivanowski (Kirkwood, MO/Kirkwood) have led the charge in scoring for McKendree through four games this season. Wentz has recorded four goals and one assist, for five points, including one hat trick. Ivanowski has found the back of the net three times and notched two assists for five points on the season. Haylee Gannaway (Moreno Valley, CA/Rancho Verde) has seen time in all four games registering a 3.43 goals against average and a save percentage of .899.
"We're all looking forward to the first home games in team history, especially with it being homecoming weekend. We're hoping for a good crowd," said head coach
Craig Buntenbach. "The girls are coming of a good weekend and are looking to continue where they left off this weekend, adding two more wins. I expect a couple of competitive games as Midland has several new faces on their roster. If we continue to play to our potential and show improvement, we should be rewarded with two victories."
