ST. LOUIS, Mo. – McKendree women's hockey (21-9-1, 12-4-1 WMCH) season came to an end at the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) W1 National Tournament at Centene Community Ice Center in St. Louis, Missouri.
Wednesday, March 18 | vs. # 9 Arizona State | W, 2-0
McKendree got the tournament started in fast fashion, going up two goals in the first period and then holding off the Sun Devils for the remainder of the game to secure the victory in game one.
Freshman defense Hazel Toepfer got the Bearcats on the board first with a goal nearly five minutes into the first period. She was assisted off a nice pass from sophomore forward Kendra Shumaker. Just under 10 minutes later freshman defense Addi Uhrig slotted home a goal in the bottom right corner to put McKendree up 2-0. She was assisted by freshman forward Olivia Imperato.
After several penalties throughout the game on the McKendree side. The defense stepped up and was able to get through the shorthanded time without giving up a single goal.
Senior goaltender Rachel Staresinic got the win in net, saving all 15 shots she faced from the Arizona State attack.

Thursday, March 19 | vs. # 5 Maryville | L, 2-5
However, the second game wouldn't turn in the way of the Bearcats, falling to Maryville by a score of 5-2. The Saints opened the scoring in the first period with a quick goal off a face off in the McKendree defensive half.
McKendree responded in the second period with two goals to retake the lead going into the third period. The goals were scored from senior forward Jayna Barnden who was assisted by Imperato and graduate student forward Brittney Kambeitz. The second goal came from junior defense Brooklynne Painter where she sounded the top iron to put it in the net. She was assisted by graduate student forward Kiley Hasenfratz and sophomore forward Alexandra Binning.
Maryville took advantage of three separate power plays in the third and an empty net opportunity to score four goals to take the game.
Staresinic was once again in goal, saving 21 shots.
