(HAZELWOOD, Mo., Oct 16) – The McKendree University women's hockey team completed the sweep of Midland University with a 3-0 shutout win on Sunday afternoon at the Ice Zone at St. Louis Mills Mall.
 
Sunday's win for the Bearcats comes after a 5-3 win on Saturday night. Allison Sauvola (Eagle River, WI/Northland Pines) opened the scoring for the Bearcats in the first period on a pass from Kiera Dietrich, marking her first goal of the season. Both teams went scoreless through the second period despite McKendree putting 16 shots on goal and Midland shooting seven on net. Keisha Johnson (Clearwater, BC) opened the scoring for McKendree in the third period on a pass from Lara Wentz (Bismark, ND) with 1:38 remaining. Freshman forward Alyssa Albee (Brookfield, WI/Brookfield Central) would put the game away scoring an empty net goal with Dietrich getting the assist.
 
Freshman goaltender Abbey Anderson (Edwardsville, IL/Edwardsville) was rock solid in net, earning a 24 save shutout in her first appearance of the season. Anderson registers the first shutout in program history giving her a goals against average of 0 and a save percentage of 1.000.
 
Both Albee and Johnson netted their second goals of the weekend in this contest, along with Sauvola's first of the season. Dietrich added two assists in the game to give her a total of three assists on the season.     
 
"The girls played their best game of the season by far. There was a lot of good puck movement and we controlled the game from beginning to end," said head coach Craig Buntenbach. "Midland's goalie played very well and kept the game close until the end. Our girls kept pressuring and finally netted the second goal with only a minute and a half left in the game but overall, this was a very good weekend for us."

The Bearcats are back in action Friday, October 21 and Saturday, October 22, against Robert Morris at the Edge Ice Arena in Bensenville, IL.
