(LEBANON, Ill., Nov. 10) -- The McKendree University women's basketball team opens the 2016-17 regular season this weekend with a pair of non-conference games in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, Great Lakes Valley Conference Crossover Tournament. The Bearcats open Friday evening with a 5 p.m. showdown against the hosting school Hillsdale College in Hillsdale, MI before wrapping things up Saturday at 4 p.m. against Lake Superior State University.

McKendree kicked off the season last weekend with an exhibition contest that saw the Bearcats come out on top 76-71. Senior forward Emily Pusheck (South Milwaukee, Wis./South Milwaukee) carried the load with a game high 15 points that included a 7-8 mark from the charity stripe. Sophomore forward Jordan Morton (Olathe, Kan./Olathe South) added 14 points on 6-9 shooting adding four rebounds and one steal. Senior guard Amber Alexander (St. Louis, Mo./Parkway North) hit three of her four attempts from beyond the arc as she tallied nine points, five rebounds and four steals.

McKendree hosted the GLIAC/GLVC Crossover Challenge a season ago splitting a pair of games with a 51-40 victory in their season opener against Lake Superior State before dropping a 71-59 contest to Hillsdale. Emily Pusheck (South Milwaukee, Wis./South Milwaukee) reached double figures against the Lakers with 10 points and five boards, while junior guard Halle Devoe (Springfield, Ill./Southeast) netted nine points and six rebounds. Senior guard Shannon McGinnis (Niles, Ill./Trinity) pulled down nine rebounds the following day against the Chargers adding a pair of steals and Alexander dished out a team high five assists for the Bearcats.
