(HUDSONVILLE, Mich., Nov. 19) – The McKendree University women's hockey team fell to Grand Valley State University Friday night by a final score of 3-2.
Heading into the game, the Bearcats sit at the No. 13 spot and Grand Valley State sits at No. 4 in the latest American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) women's division 1 rankings.
The Lakers opened the scoring, with the only goal in the first period at the 11:15 mark. Grand Valley State struck again in the second period to take a 2-0 lead into the third period. Freshman forward
Alyssa Albee (Brookfield, WI/Brookfield Central) opened the scoring for the Bearcats just under five minutes into the third period. Freshman forwards
Kaleigh Slisz (Chicago, IL/Marist) and
Keisha Johnson (Clearwater, BC) registered assists on Albee's goal. The Lakers scored once more halfway through the third period, to extend their lead to two. Freshman forward
Bryana Christensen (Sidney, MT) netted her first career goal on an unassisted effort to cut the lead back down to one. However, the Bearcats efforts fell short and Grand Valley State took the 3-2 victory.
The Bearcats hit the ice again Saturday afternoon against Grand Valley State at 1:30 p.m. EST.
