(LEBANON, Ill., Dec. 2) – The McKendree University women's hockey team heads to Adrian, Mich. to face off against No. 2 ranked Adrian College this weekend. Saturday the teams go head-to-head at 7 p.m., with the second game of the series on Sunday at 2 p.m. Both games will be played at Arrington Ice Arena in Adrian, Mich.
The Bearcats last games came on the weekend of November 18, when they took on Grand Valley State and Davenport University. McKendree fell 3-2 in the first game against Grand Valley, but upset them in the second game by a score of 3-1. The Bearcats earned their second shutout of the season against Davenport, to take home a 2-1 record on the weekend. McKendree now has an overall record of 9-6 and sits at No. 11 in the most recent American Collegiate Hockey Association women's D1 rankings. Adrian College has an overall record of 10-2 and is currently ranked No. 2.
McKendree is led in points and goals by freshman forward
Lara Wentz (Bismark, ND) with 11 goals and four assists for 15 points on the season. Freshman forward
Delayne Ivanowski (Kirkwood, MO/Kirkwood) leads the team in assists with eight, along with her five goals for 13 points. Freshman forwards
Alyssa Albee (Brookfield, WI/Brookfield Central) and
Keisha Johnson (Clearwater, BC) each have eight points, with
Natalia Taylor (Sooke, BC/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame) having seven points to round out the Bearcats top five scorers so far this season.
The Bearcats have three goaltenders seeing time so far this season in freshmen
Haylee Gannaway (Moreno Valley, CA/Rancho Verde) and
Jazmin Malinowski (New Lenox, IL/Lincoln-Way), along with sophomore
Abbey Anderson (Edwardsville, IL/Edwardsville). Gannaway has a record of 6-4 with one shutout and a save percentage of 0.934. Anderson also has one shutout, with a save percentage of 0.913 and a record of 1-2. Malinowski has a save percentage of 0.872 with a record of 2-0.
