(ADRIAN, Mich., Dec. 5) – The McKendree University women's hockey team was swept by No. 2 ranked Adrian College over the weekend. Friday night the Bearcats were defeated by a final score of 5-0. Saturday McKendree fell by a 5-1 final in Adrian, Mich.
Friday night McKendree was held scoreless, as Adrian College found the back of the net five times. The Bulldogs netted two goals in the first period, held scoreless in the second period, and added three more in the third period. In net for McKendree was freshman
Haylee Gannaway (Moreno Valley, CA/Rancho Verde) stopping 34 of 39 shots for a save percentage of 0.872.
The second game of the two game series, began at 2 p.m. on Saturday afternoon, with a 0-0 tie after the first period. The Bearcats struck first on a goal by freshman forward
Alyssa Albee (Brookfield, WI/Brookfield Central) on a pass from freshman forward
Bryana Christensen (Sidney, MT). McKendree held the 1-0 lead through the end of the second period, but could not hold the lead in the third. Adrian College came out flying in the third period, scoring five times to defeat McKendree by a final score of 5-1. Freshman goaltenders
Haylee Gannaway (Moreno Valley, CA/Rancho Verde) and
Jazmin Malinowski (New Lenox, IL/Lincoln-Way) split time in net for the Bearcats. Gannaway stopped 30 of 34 shots, with Malinowski stopping 8 of 9.
McKendree now has a record of 9-8, and the Bearcats are back in action against the Chicago Fury U19 AAA for the team's home opener at the new McKendree Metro Rec Plex in O'Fallon, Ill. on January 21 & 22.
