(Lebanon, Ill., Dec. 7) – The McKendree University women's basketball team rolled to a 73-29 victory over Central Christian College Wednesday evening inside the Harry M. Statham Sports Center in a non-conference match up.
The win bumped the Bearcats to 5-3 overall on the season. McKendree returns to the hardwood Saturday evening with a 5 p.m. showdown against Harris-Stowe State University.
McKendree was paced by senior forward
Emily Pusheck (South Milwaukee, Wis./South Milwaukee) who came off the bench to score a game high 12 points to go with a pair of rebounds. Fellow senior forward
Ellie Pusheck (South Milwaukee, Wis./South Milwaukee) also reached double figures with 10 points, adding two rebounds, two assists, and two blocks. Sophomore forward
Jordan Morton (Olathe, Kan./Olathe South) chipped in eight points to pair with six boards. Senior guard
Shannon McGinnis (Niles, Ill./Trinity) also tallied eight points to go with a game high seven rebounds, while freshman forward
Megan Jensen (Union, MO/Saint Francis Borgia Regional ) added eight points and hauled in four rebounds.
The Bearcats did not commit a foul in the contest, which set an NCAA single game record.
McKendree opened the game on an 8-0 run with four points coming in the paint from Morton. The Saints did not score their first basket of the game until the 5:59 mark of the first quarter. The Bearcats followed with 14-0 run to close the first quarter. McKendree scored 12 points off of eight turnovers and 12 points in the paint as freshman forward
Shayli Florine (Galesburg, IL/Galesburg) tabbed all six of her points and Morton, McGinnis, and Emily Puscheck each netted four points to give McKendree a 22-2 lead after the first ten minutes of action.
Central Christian trimmed the lead to 17 with a 7-0 run in the second quarter. The Bearcats followed suit with a 16-3 run of their own as
Ellie Pusheck (South Milwaukee, Wis./South Milwaukee) netted eight of her points, while
Emily Pusheck (South Milwaukee, Wis./South Milwaukee) added four. Seven different Bearcats chipped in points for McKendree in the second frame as the Bearcats led 44-14 at the half.
Things slowed in the third quarter with McKendree outscoring the Saints 6-2 in the first 2:06 of the third quarter. The teams closed the final 7:56 playing to an even 6-6. The Bearcats scored 10 of their 12 third quarter points in the point including eight on second chance baskets as Morton and Jensen each tallied four third quarter points.
McKendree controlled the final 10 minutes of action as the Bearcats bench had a strong showing with all 17 of the teams points, including five from freshman forward
Haley Ahr (Woodstock, IL/Woodstock North), as McKendree wrapped up a 44 point win.
