(LEBANON, Ill., Dec. 9)--The McKendree University men's basketball team will continue its eight-game home stand Saturday evening by playing host to Trevecca Nazarene University. Tip-off for the non-conference affair is set for 7 p.m. at the Harry M. Statham Sports Center. Kent Zimmerman will have the call live on the Bearcat Sports Network (www.glvcsn.com/mckendree), beginning with the pre-game show at 6:55 p.m.
The Bearcats will be looking to get back to the .500 mark this season as they bring a 3-4 record into Saturday's contest. McKendree rolled to an 84-60 victory Wednesday at home over Central Christian College. Senior guard
Michael Jackson (O'Fallon, IL/O'Fallon) and junior guard
Justin Blanks (Barberton, OH/Norton) each notched a double-double in the contest as Blanks had 20 points and a game-high 12 rebounds, while Jackson contributed 20 points and 10 rebounds in the effort. McKendree took a 38-24 lead at the half, then pulled away by shooting 55.6 percent from the floor over the final 20 minutes. The Bearcats also held a 48-32 margin in rebounding along with a 40-0 edge in bench scoring against the Saints.Â
Trevecca Nazarene brings a 2-7 record to the Statham Center on Saturday. The Trojans began a two-game road swing through the St. Louis area Thursday evening with a 78-65 loss at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. Percy Blade led Trevecca Nazarene with 17 points and eight rebounds, while Donovan Donaldson netted 15 points in the contest. Devin Whitfield, who is the Trojans' leading scorer this season, added 14 points and seven rebounds against the Tritons.
Saturday's game will mark the second meeting in 14 days between McKendree and Trevecca Nazarene. Back on Nov. 26 in Nashville, Tenn., the host Trojans rallied late in regulation on its way to a 74-70 overtime win over the Bearcats. Freshman center
Nolan Gerling (Germantown, IL/Mater Dei)Â dominated in the paint that evening against Trevecca Nazarene as he posted season-high totals of 33 points and 22 rebounds. That is one of just three 30-point, 20-rebound efforts by an NCAA Division II player so far this season. Sophomore guard
Nate Michael (St. Joseph, IL/St. Joseph-Ogden) helped out with 16 points for McKendree. Donaldson came off the bench to pace Trevecca Nazarene with 20 points as Whitfield posted 14 points and Blade pulled down a team-best 12 rebounds for the Trojans.Â
With the win, Trevecca Nazarene snapped a three-game winning streak for McKendree at the Trojan Fieldhouse. The Trojans also hold a slight 5-4 lead in the all-time series with the Bearcats.Â
Following Saturday's game, McKendree will wrap up its pre-holiday schedule on Wednesday at home against Salem International University. The Bearcats will then have more than two weeks off before returning to action Dec. 30 at home against Robert Morris University-Peoria.Â
