Game OneMcKendree- 6
Simon Fraser- 13
McKendree cut its deficit in half, 6-3, after two innings, but was unable to get enough offense in a 13-6 loss to Simon Fraser University.
The Bearcats were first on the scoreboard with a single run in the top of the first inning. Junior
Jamie Doggendorf (Dittmer, Mo./Northwest) reached on a bunt single, and would move to second on a fielding error by the second baseman on the next at bat by junior
Hanna Branch (Kirkwood, Mo./Kirkwood). Both runners advanced on a wild pitch, and Doggendorf would score on a sac fly by sophomore
Brooke Gajewski (Kronenwetter, Wis./D.C. Everest) to take a 1-0 lead. The Clan responded in the bottom of the first with six runs to jump out to a 6-1 lead.
McKendree cut the score to 6-3 in the second inning, with an RBI single by Branch that scored freshman
Sara Radae (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville High School), and sophomore
Tylin Stephens (Blue Springs, Mo./Blue Springs High School) would score on a groundout by Gajewski. SFU extended their lead to 8-3 with two runs in the third inning, but Branch doubled to score Doggendorf in the fourth inning, and Branch later scored on a illegal pitch to cut the deficit to 8-5. The Clan went on to add two runs in the bottom of the inning to lead 10-5 after four innings.
Simon Fraser extended the lead to 12-5 in the fifth inning, but a solo homer by Gajewski in the sixth made the score 12-6. The Clan scored one more run in the sixth inning, and McKendree wasn't able to rally in its final at bat to fall 13-6.
Gajewski fell to 0-3 overall and had two strikeouts in the loss, while Doggendorf, Branch and Radae each had two hits. Gajewski also had three RBI.
Game TwoMcKendree- 3
Auburn-Montgomery- 5
McKendree led 3-0 after three innings, but a late rally by Auburn University-Montgomery in the fifth and sixth innings was too much to overcome in a 5-3 loss.
Freshman
Samantha Cameron (Dix, Ill./Centralia, Ill.) put the Bearcats on the board in the top of the second with a solo home run, the first of her collegiate career, to take a 1-0 lead. A single by Doggendorf in the third inning brought in Stephens, and a single by Cameron scored Doggendorf to extend the lead to 3-0.
The Warhawks cut the score to 3-1 in the fifth inning, and scored four runs in the sixth inning to take a 5-3 lead and held on to win.
Maci Ingram (Woodlawn, Ill./Nashville Community High School) fell to 0-2 overall and had seven strikeouts in the loss, while Cameron had three hits, two RBI, and a run scored at the plate. Senior
Marla Schulte (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon Township) also had two hits in the game.
